Pottery

In pottery, students are introduced to the overall clay process, stages of clay, tools, materials and terminology.  Students are encouraged to develop an aesthetic sense of form, function and surface design.  Forming techniques explored in this class are: pinch pottery, slab construction and coil building.  Seniors are instructed in techniques of throwing on the potter's wheel.  Decoration techniques include the use of texture, incising, slips, glaze, graffito and majolica.  Students are also exposed to electric kiln firing, the use of cones and primitive pit firing.
