AP Studio Art

This AP course is offered by teacher recommendation only. In this advanced level full-year course, students will prepare for the practical experience of the visual arts at the college level.  College credits are obtained in AP Studio Art through the submission of a comprehensive portfolio of work. The two choices of portfolio offered are Drawing and 2D Design. The College Board judges portfolios under the rigorous criteria of: I. Quality, II. Concentration, and  III. Breadth.   An emphasis on developing confidence through mastery and control of a wide range of media will be reinforced.  Assignments in this course will have greater depth on a conceptual level.  The assimilation of aesthetics and art criticism will be used to decipher and analyze their own artworks as well as those from other artists throughout history and cultures.  As a result of self-analysis, students will be expected to make any revisions they see fit to improve their imagery.  Due to the requirements of this course, students will be expected to work on projects both inside and outside of the classroom setting.  Meetings will be held once a week after school. Seniors will be expected to put together a comprehensive display of their own work for the art show in the spring.
