Movement Class

Mrs. Timokhina, Instructor

Goal: Movement Class presents an opportunity for students to learn proper stretching, warm-up, and breathing techniques.  Students should be able to incorporate class material into their own fitness schedules.  An awareness of and an ability to perform basic dance movements and choreography are expected.
Students will have four minutes after the second bell to change into shorts/sweatpants, T-shirts, socks and sneakers.  We will join together in prayer. Four minutes will be allowed at the end of class to change back into uniforms.
Students might be asked to bring two, one to three pound hand weights to the class.
Each class will consist of a series of stretches and warm-up exercises set to a variety of music. Repeating these exercises before participating in any sports activity or dance class will be encouraged.  Time will be allowed to focus on particular muscle groups or problem areas.  Activities to develop spatial awareness, balance, and basic dance movements will also be incorporated into the weekly schedule.
Students are not required to participate in school productions.  Students will have an opportunity to perform throughout the year.  Students will be responsible for any special clothing or accessories costs.  Students are expected to attend after school rehearsals during the time prior to the performance.
Students will be graded based on the following: periodic quizzes, written assignments, and demonstrations (30 %,) participation (70 %.)  The Mid Term/Final Exam grade includes a demonstration and explanation of the techniques covered in class or participation in a school dance production (70 %,) and a written portion (30 %.)
If the student is injured and unable to participate, a doctor’s note is required.  The student not physically participating for an extended period of time, but present in class, will be responsible for a written assignment or presentation. If a student is absent from the class, it is that student’s responsibility to ask for the information and materials that may have been given out on the missed day.  The student should contact the teacher immediately upon returning to school.
The time and dates to make-up missed quizzes will be arranged upon the student’s return to school.
A deduction of three points will be taken off from the quarterly grade for each incident involving inappropriate attire, discipline, and lack of participation.  No late assignments will be accepted.
Students will be given four minutes after the second bell to change before the end of class to change back into their uniform.
