THE PROUT SCHOOL ~ PROMOTING STRENGTH IN MIND, BODY AND SPRIT
Rhode Island Catholic secondary schools provide many excellent educational choices for students and their parents.  The Prout School, in fact, has been one of the finest high schools in the state of Rhode Island.  We recognize that we offer a truly superior educational experience.  We further understand that we must continue to improve -- to make what is already excellent even more valuable.

Founded in 1966 by the Sisters of the Cross and Passion, The Prout School has been growing as a community of learners, believers, and friends ever since that time.  In 1986 the first class of young men was admitted.  The decision to become coeducational, combined with the school’s growing reputation of excellence inside and outside of the classroom, has resulted in enrollment growth to over 650 students – a 90% increase since 2001!

The following abstract seeks to describe our opportunities, our plans, and our future goals and ambitions.  We invite you to review this prospectus, and hope you will join us in making this vision a reality.  If, at anytime, you have questions or wish to provide feedback, we would be interested in hearing from you.  Please do so by contacting the Office of Institutional Advancement.

THE PROUT EXPERIENCE
Call it Prout Pride, or Quality Education at its Best……The Prout School is committed to providing a top-level educational experience for all of its students, and embraces the mission of a Catholic education.  With a balanced vision of academic excellence, cultural wealth in the arts, spiritual life, and athletic achievement, Prout builds upon a remarkable record of success -- ninety-seven percent of Prout students go on to competitive colleges, and seventy-five percent of graduating students are members of the Rhode Island and National Honor Societies.

Prout continues to grow in many ways.  It has invested in classroom and building additions, academic course expansion, and performing arts and sports program enhancements.  In creating the school’s long range plans, the Board of Directors, Administration, and Faculty are committed to the following three principles:

  • We will always be committed to Academic Excellence. We will strive to affirm our position as one of the academic leaders among all high schools in the State of Rhode Island.
  • We will prepare young adults by providing them with the tools they need to be successful leaders in the academic and professional worlds, while at the same time empowering them to take ownership in their educational experience.
  • We will continue to create Student Leaders of Competence, Conscience, and Compassion. We will provide our students with teachings that build confidence, proficiency, and moral integrity - the qualities of leadership needed in every walk of life.

The Prout School’s academic curriculum is college preparatory, and we proudly remain the only Rhode Island high school authorized by The International Baccalaureate Organization (We are an IB World School).  The IB Diploma program is a rigorous, challenging two year curriculum that encourages students to learn and prepares them to succeed at a higher level.  Along with Advanced Placement courses, they are designed to help each student acquire the broad background and variety of skills needed for success in college and beyond.  Students who choose and qualify for these programs are given the special opportunity to gain college and university credits.

The Prout School does not serve only academically gifted students, however.  Prout eagerly works with parents, teachers, and administrators to provide the best resources, education, and programs for incoming students who, although able to handle the rigors of a college preparatory program, additionally need instruction at a more basic level.  Each individual receives the opportunity to grow, and to excel, to his or her full potential.

Students and parents choose a school for many reasons.  Many recognize that a successful educational experience does not take place in a vacuum.  It is vital to the learning process that students are exposed to values that place an education in a broad perspective.  As a Roman Catholic school within the Diocese of Providence, Prout brings Christian morals, ethics, and teachings to this process.  We are also committed to instilling compassion, respect, and an understanding of the obligation of civic and community service in students who come to us for their education.

KEY FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
In order to achieve excellence in education, schools need dedicated and expert faculty members and staff, along with modern and full-service facilities.  As a non-profit institution, Prout continues to engage in ongoing fundraising initiatives that will enable us to provide our faculty with the resources that more-than-meet their instructional needs.  It will also help us provide a facilities environment that will attract and retain teachers of quality.  A successful, broad-based fundraising program also provides stability for a school that is committed, not merely to expansion, but also to an ongoing growth of service.

This is an exciting time for The Prout School.  Along with the demand for continual program improvements in many areas, however, comes the requisite need to acquire the funding that enables us to accomplish our goals.  We have created various opportunities for individual and corporate donations to the School during the year.  All are worthy of your strong consideration.  Among them are the Annual Appeal, the Capital Campaign, and the Spring Auction, and all are described elsewhere on the Prout website.  We also have a number of different ways in which you may give, including gifts of securities, of real estate, annuities, cash, and more.  Gifts may also be made online through the website, accessible below.

RECENT SUPPORT-DRIVEN ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The Prout School recognizes that we must provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for our students.  Societal, technological, and educational developments have changed the way that our instructors teach, and have provided new appreciation for the way students learn.  Our classrooms, labs, teaching spaces, and co-curricular facilities must reflect that reality in order to provide a sound education for our future community leaders.  The following improvements have been recently introduced to The Prout School Community through the ongoing support of our community members:

  • A New Science Wing, equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, classrooms, furnishings, technology, and equipment to support strong academic programs in biology, physics, and chemistry;
  • A New Computer Center, equipped with wireless technology for instant access to the Internet, which will incorporate both laptop learning and interactive classrooms for faculty and students;
  • A New Music Center, with a large practice area for a full orchestra or band, and smaller practice rooms for individuals and small groups;
  • New Guidance, Medical, and Administrative office areas. These are conveniently located along two corridors near the main entrance, and will provide our students and community members with the resources and services they need on a day-to-day basis.
  • A new multi-media language and learning center offering exciting opportunity to engage students in independent projects while still in a group setting.  It will shortly open a door to independent study in non-traditional languages and other areas of learning not currently available to our students.

WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS….
The Prout School will continue to provide an excellent college preparatory education, and will maintain an environment that welcomes everyone.  As our growth is realized, we will do our best to provide the tools necessary for success in teaching and learning.  Successful fundraising initiatives are both ongoing and necessary in order to help us provide those tools.

We are indebted to those who have been part of our growth since the beginning, and we hope to continue to expand the number of donors and advocates for our cause.  Prout has both a strong and effective Board of Directors and a talented faculty and administration.  Nevertheless, we still seek improvement in a number of areas.  In supporting the school, donors make a tangible expression of their dedication to Prout’s students and mission.  Any gift, no matter how big or small, will assist the school in the following areas:

  • Provide significant funds to address our most critical day-to-day needs;
  • Generate the necessary momentum and credibility to achieve our strategic objectives and fundraising goals;
  • Have a multiplying effect by attracting other donors;
  • It will send a message to friends and donors alike about the importance of supporting Prout.

We thank you for your honest consideration of our accomplishments and our needs.
