She was walking to soccer practice during her senior year, when she stopped in front of the old horse stables to answer her phone. Emily found out she was accepted to play on the Connecticut College women's soccer team while standing a few hundred feet from Prout's soccer fields.
Fast forward to today, Emily graduated from Connecticut College in May 2020 and now works at BlackRock in Princeton, New Jersey as a sales analyst. Even 200 miles away from The Prout School she cannot stop thinking back to the playing fields.
“The field is one thing I’ll always remember,” says the alum, “I wish we had a better field when I played at Prout. I had a great experience and I loved my time there, but I was able to go to college and have that big stadium, big field experience with lots of fans. I think that’s something that, playing at Prout, you see at away games and don’t get at home because everything is so crammed into one field area.”
Emily was a member of the Crusader’s soccer team for four years and captain her senior year. From her first hat trick, to
watching her team score in the last 30 seconds of a game to win 1-0 over a longtime rival, unforgettable moments took place on the pitch behind the school.
When she found there was an opportunity to donate to the building of the new turf field, Emily committed to donating $5,000 over five years; BlackRock will double the amount. She wanted to give back and hopefully make the path clearer for future Prout athletes who will be able to score in a field far superior to the one she played on.
“Always have Prout in the back of your mind,” Emily encourages her fellow alumni, “when you can help, please do. I think it’s always good to make roots in a place where you spent four years of your life. I’m no longer in Rhode Island but the fact that I can help out back in my home state is really uplifting.”
